:: Right-click Links to Navigate from IE to Firefox ::

Okay, so now that we've all discovered how amazing Firefox is, wouldn't it be nice to have a way to open links in Firefox from IE while the bugs are ironed out? Sure it would...so here's how to do it:

First off, download this file (right-click -> Save Target As...) and save it in your Firefox directory (or wherever else you'd like to save it...doesn't really matter, but the Firefox directory seems like a logical choice to me).

Next up is the fun registry modification part...trust me, it's not really as scary as everyone makes it out to be.

  1. Open Regedit.
  2. Find HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/MenuExt
  3. Right Click on MenuExt and create a new Key
  4. Name this Key &Open in Firefox - the ampersand isn't required but it adds an 'alt underline value' to the item in the menu and makes it appear at the top of the menu extensions section.
  5. In the right pane of Regedit where there should be a funny little 'ab' icon followed by (default), REG_SZ and (value not set) - Double click the icon and set the Value Data field to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\openInFirefox.html, or whatever the correct path to the html document is on your system.
  6. Restart Internet Explorer and Voila!

:: How to go the other way (Firefox -> IE) ::

Now we've got the IE to Firefox navigation rockin'. What about the other direction? Well, we're in luck. Turns out there's a Firefox extension designed to do just that...

Here's the link (opens in a new window...or better yet, right-click and "Open in Firefox").

Now, wasn't that painless? Enjoy!
